Service for sail

Nielsen Beaumont bills itself as “San Diego’s Premier Boatyard, where the difference is in the details.” Located on Shelter Island the firm provides boat and yacht services including repair, maintenance and restoration. The company’s local employees also service watercraft operated by the U.S. Navy, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Homeland Security, U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, Port of San Diego Harbor Police and the National Ocean & Atmospheric Administration.

X

Time Wharf

Driscoll’s Wharf is a working commercial-fishing marina that accommodates commercial, sport and recreational fishing customers. This international destination for boat owners and operators was founded by Gerry Driscoll in 1947.

X

What up, dock?

The majority of cruise ships arriving in San Diego dock at B-Street Pier & Cruise Terminal, which measures 1,000 feet long by 130 feet wide. That’s 130,000 square-feet, roughly the equivalent of 2.25 professional football fields (not like we have an NFL team to cheer for at the moment).

X

Pier into the future

This modern waterfront icon, which helps make San Diego the “Port of Land and See,” features a waterfront visitor center, restaurant and public plaza. The LEED Gold-certified facility is basically BFFs with the environment. At 115 yards long by 75 yards wide, it’s about the size of a FIFA soccer field.

X

San Diego’s hooked!

This open-air seafood market (open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.) is where the public and chefs purchase fresh-caught seafood and aqua-farmed seaweed directly from local fisherman and aquafarmers.

X

You can tune a piano, but you can’t tuna fish

In the 1960s, America’s Finest City was known as “The Tuna Capital of the World,” employing nearly 40,000 people. While the world’s tuna fleet now sets its sights on the Western Pacific, San Diego’s Tuna Harbor remains a thriving component of the Port’s working waterfront, drawing legions of commercial and sportfishing fans in search of swordfish, lobster and sea urchins, among other delicacies.

X

That’s bananas!

Dole delivers 3.9 billion bananas to San Diego via the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal, whose primary inbound cargos include perishables and refrigerated commodities, fertilizer, cement and breakbulk commodities (larger items that don’t fit in shipping containers). The 96-acre complex’s footprint is about 60 percent of the size of Disneyland. It’s 300,000-square-foot temperature-controlled warehouse could house roughly 18 San Diego Gulls ice rinks.

X

Check your watch – it’s Maritime

Formerly known as Continental Maritime San Diego, this shipyard employs skilled craftswomen and men who specialize in welding, pipefitting, marine electrical repair and installation, boiler repair and more. The operation is a Certified Master Ship Repair contractor for the U.S. Military and Military Sealift Command.

X

BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair

BAE Systems, a subsidiary of a global defense, aerospace and security company, designs and manufactures commercial and naval ships, submarines, torpedoes, radars and command and combat systems. Its Port of San Diego facility encompasses 20 acres of property on land plus nearly 17 acres of water area on San Diego Bay.

X

Four-star General

Designing, building and repairing ships since 1960, General Dynamics NASSCO is the largest full-service shipyard on the West Coast. It specializes in auxiliary and support ships for the U.S. Navy, and oil tankers and dry cargo carriers for commercial markets.

X

Sea the future

Founded in 1969, Pacific Ship Repair and Fabrication repairs nuclear aircraft carriers for the U.S. Navy, provides precision water-jet cutting services to small contractors, powder-coats wheels for custom motorcycles and fabricates sheet metal products for local manufacturers. It also manufactures water-tight doors, hatches and manholes for the shipbuilding and repair industry.

X

What drives you?

The Pasha Group imports nearly 500,000 cars to the U.S. through Port of San Diego’s 135-acre National City Marine Terminal annually. At an average price of $40,000 each, that adds up to about $20 billion dollars’ worth of cars per year (floormats not included).

X

That works!

This family-owned operation occupies more than 15 acres of land and water within the Port of San Diego. Specializing in refits, repairs and new construction of boats up to 220 feet long, Marine Group Boat Works is recognized worldwide for its 665-ton travelift, making it the West Coast’s premiere superyacht refit facility.
